1. What is coaching, and how does it differ from counselling?
Coaching is working with a professional to intentionally and willingly move from your current situation, to a situation where you are doing what you want instead of what you feel you "should."
Unlike career counselling, which may focus on psychological support and advice, career coaching empowers you to discover your own solutions and path forward. Counselling/therapy deals with the past - but coaching says "your point of power is now" and deals very much in the present moving to the future.
2. What qualifications and training do you have as a career coach?
I have:
Completed over 120 hours of ICF accredited/eligible coaching training in the past 12 months;
Certified as a Level 6 practitioner in Careers Guidance and Development;
15 years+ experience in Careers Guidance;
Ongoing coaching and guidance from other coaches.
I am a trained and qualified career coach who engages in continuous professional development (CPD). I believe in the power of coaching so much that I also receive coaching myself. My journey to becoming a coach was inspired by personal experiences and a desire to help others find clarity and fulfillment in their careers.
Read my LinkedIn post for more information.
3. How do you deliver the sessions?
Sessions can be delivered online or face-to-face if you are based in the Greater Auckland area.
I work across New Zealand, the UK, Australia, South Africa, the USA, Canada, and other countries globally via online video call.
4. How do I know if career coaching is right for me?
Career coaching is particularly beneficial if you’re at a significant crossroads in your career, whether you’re a teen starting out or a mid-career professional feeling stuck.
If you’re ready to engage in open-hearted honesty and seek a path that aligns with your values and passions, career coaching is a great fit for you.
5. What can I expect from a typical career coaching session?
Each session is unique and tailored to your individual goals and dreams.
We’ll establish a big, audacious goal for our series of sessions and smaller aims for each session, covering aspects beyond just career, as many elements intersect with job satisfaction.
6. How long does the career coaching process usually take?
The duration varies depending on individual goals and needs. Some clients achieve their desired outcomes in a few sessions, while others may engage in a longer-term coaching relationship to explore deeper aspects of their career and personal growth.
I would recommend the full series of 12 sessions to get maximum value out of the sessions, but you can pay-as-you-go session by session if you wish.

7. What specific outcomes can I expect from working with you as a career coach?
You can expect increased self-awareness, a clearer sense of direction, the ability to identify and overcome barriers, and a personalized plan that supports your journey towards your ideal career.
Clients often break free from conventional "rules" and start considering what truly works for them.
8. Do you offer a free initial consultation or discovery session?
Yes, I offer a discovery session where we can discuss your needs and goals.
This session helps us determine if we're a good fit for each other and sets the stage for a successful coaching relationship.
9. How do I schedule a session with you, and what is your availability?
You can schedule a session by contacting me through my website or email. I offer flexible scheduling options to accommodate different time zones and personal commitments.
10. Can career coaching help me if I'm considering a major career change?
Absolutely. Career coaching is particularly effective for those considering significant changes.
We’ll explore your values, interests, and strengths to create a plan that aligns with your new career aspirations.
11. How do you tailor your coaching approach to individual clients?
I tailor my approach by understanding your unique goals, values, and challenges. We co-create a plan that addresses your specific needs and helps you move towards your desired career outcomes in a way that feels authentic to you.
I will provide a workbook for you to note down key topics and discoveries. I also utilise Microsoft Teams to share tools and informative PDFs with you - this also facilitates our sessions if we are meeting online rather than face-to-face.
12. What kind of clients do you specialise in working with?
I work with a diverse range of clients, including teenagers at the start of their careers and mid-career professionals looking for a change.
I also support parents to help their teenagers and children in making career decisions.
Anyone at a significant career crossroads can benefit from my coaching services.
13. What tools and techniques do you use during coaching sessions?
I use a variety of tools and techniques, from logical prioritisation methods to theoretical and feelings-based techniques like visualisation and embodiment.
These tools help address both practical and emotional aspects of career development.
14. Do you provide any resources or materials as part of your coaching services?
Yes, I provide various resources and materials tailored to your needs, including worksheets, exercises, and reading materials that support your journey towards achieving your career goals.
15. How do you handle confidentiality and privacy in coaching sessions?
Confidentiality and privacy are paramount in my coaching practice. Everything discussed in our sessions remains confidential, creating a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings openly.
I adhere to the ICF Code of Ethics and ethical standards within my practice.
As part of my ongoing CPD, it can be useful for me to share sessions with a mentor coach - I will expressly ask for your permission to do so when you start your sessions with me, and there is no obligation to say "yes" to this.
16. What is your approach to helping clients set and achieve their career goals?
My approach involves understanding your values, interests, and strengths, setting clear and achievable goals, identifying potential barriers, and creating actionable plans. We’ll work together to ensure your goals align with your overall vision for your career and life.
At the start of our coaching relationship, we'll agree the key deliverables for the sessions, and I will select resources for you to utilise based on the outcomes you are looking to achieve.
It is useful to note that whilst the coaching process is designed to support you in achieving your goals, no coach can guarantee your outcomes or success.
17. Can you help with practical aspects like resume writing and interview preparation?
Yes, I can assist with practical aspects such as resume writing and interview preparation.
These elements can be integrated into our coaching sessions as needed to support your career development.
18. What is your fee structure, and do you offer any payment plans?
My fee structure varies based on the length and type of coaching engagement. I offer flexible payment plans to ensure my services are accessible.
Please view my Services page for detailed pricing information, or get in touch.
19. What should I do to prepare for my first coaching session?
Reflect on your current career situation, your goals, and any challenges you’re facing. Being open and honest about your aspirations and concerns will help us get the most out of our time together.
I will also provide a questionnaire for you to complete.
20. How can I get in touch with you if I have more questions or want to start coaching?
You can contact me via my contact form, email, or social media.
I’m happy to answer any additional questions and help you take the first steps towards your ideal career.
